16.09.2011 - It¡¯s so frustrating

It is so hard to find good zentai  for my husband. He is 6’2 and wears a XXXL. He’s a very large man and he’s only been able to resort to the ol’ monks robe and reaper robe. We did try to do a cowboy one year, but since he is too big for any of the cool props, chaps, dusters, etc. we just did a flannel shirt, jeans, and boots. big whoop. His monk animal silver zentai was GREAT in the standard size, but when you go plus size in the SAME COSTUME, they switch to the chancy silky fabric they make every other costume out of and it COST MORE!!! GAWD! If they are going to cheap out on the damn thing, at least they could do is charge the same for it as the others!
Anyway, I do not know how to sew, and do now know anyone who does, otherwise, I would have something made for him. Homemade yellow zentai suit  are the best anyway, but we are totally out of ideas and resources for him. He loves Halloween like I do, but costume hunting/creating has become a chore for him and he has started to get so frustrated, he’s to the point of not wanting to dress up at all for the yearly bash! He doesn’t’ know what he wants to do this year yet, but I would like to go as a pirate couple or something. Or just get him the shirt so he could even try the vampire thing with the same pirate shirt…

16.09.2011 - I decided to make us some ride-on Demon Ostriches

And I still haven’t finished my lycra bodysuits! I decided to make us some ride-on Demon Ostriches. I’ve made the main red pvc suit , with built in belt to hold mine on (as wearing a slinky black/burgundy lace up velvet camisole with mine) and braces to hold up his (as he’ll probably wear a jumper or something bulky which will hide them). Long black fluff covers the frame. I’ve built my “legs”, black leather kids jeans with boots (very 80′s goth).
Made hubby some black fluffy trousers, as he feels the cold more, don’t need to for mine. I recon even female ostriches shave their legs. Made the black necks & sprayed black the chicken feet, with glossed black halloween zentai. Still to do: Make the LED eyes, red LED’s to poke through the head, with a hidden button on the “reins” so that they can be flashed. Made the opening beaks…did find some toucan masks this afternoon, so got to attach these to the mechanism. Make Hubby’s “legs” (he still hasn’t told me which jeans he wants to black shiny catsuit use. Put the eyes and beak mechanism through the heads, fill the rest with expanding foam, and cover with fur. Stick on their Horns.
Yikes! Plus we’re meant to be going away this week. The costumes are for our annual party on the 3rd…Can’t have it on Halloween itself as too many people work the next day. Mildly gutted not to be home for halloween, but hoping wherever we stay we might still get trick or treaters – going to take the cauldron of treat bags with me, just in case (We’re taking our old camper down the coast, going to go visit a monkey sanctuary). Will decorate the zentai van a bit, just to encourage kids on the campsite.

16.09.2011 - The Most Basic Makeup Question

This year, we’re dressing up nurse suit as ghosts in a cemetary… What would you use to make that white face? I don’t want it to be white-white, but more kind of ethereal (is that the right word??) almost greyish-dead-looking… Get the picture? You’ll need to mix a little bit of black in with your white face paint and make the hollows of your face a little darker than other areas. Please post a picture of how you do. This is one hard thing to pull off with good effect.

I’d go with a few shades of blue and only use a grey for around the eyes. (extreme shadows) Don’t use pure white or pure black, except for the smallest of details. Otherwise it’ll look too much like a crappy paint job. Blending the shades is what will make it look “real”. Lighter for the high points, ridge of the nose, cheekbones, etc… Darker for the zentai costume , sunken cheeks, temple, etc. Personally i wouldn’t go for anything but Manic Panic makeup. And i know a few others on here feel the same way. They do many different shades and tones of any color you could imagine, and are used by many well known music acts from Marilyn Manson to Joss Stone. But if you’re just looking to spend a couple bucks, may not be what you’re looking for.

I intend to reprise my Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West costume this year. I don’t want to repeat the debacle I had last year with the green “face paint” I got from the local costume store…smeared all over EVERYTHING!! What do you use to color large areas of skin so that the makeup stays put (I’m going to a party and don’t want to ruin the host’s furniture) but can be removed reasonably easily (don’t want to have to bathe in acetone). If that’s the case, do a test white pvc catsuit with some grease paint. Then dust it with talcum powder. Use a soft brush to apply the powder, and to brush the excess off. You might even blot the makeup with a damp cloth to remove extra powder. See if that smears too much for you. Grease paint is easy to remove, use cold cream, and soap and water.
